Poverty.

How hateful it is to live in poverty
Every day, begging, pleading, wanting
Needing, hungry, empty, frustrated.
Never knowing where to turn, I want
To turn and run as far into a corner
As I can - away from it all
Curled up in a ball
Of my own misery.
I can`t grow food in a flat
Modern living - Huh!

The elite and even the workers
Think we like to be idle
As we sidle
Up to get our charity.

Life means nothing when
You are too sick to work
You become too sick to care.
You just want to cry
Or lie down and die.
We don`t want it this way
We want to work every day.
We would walk then with pride
Not have to hide - our shame
Who`s to blame
You tell me - because I can`t see
Why it should be - Me.
