Spaced out in this not so spacey E express train
So… I look up toward the nicely elevated and littered ads
And one exclaims:
“It's your city, why should tourists have all the fun?”
Well… I find that message to be quite ironic, alarming but… oddly realistic
Why is it that I can't even go to a nice lil' outdoor restaurant
Because it'll eat up my entire paycheck?
Why am I made out to be a tourist in my own city,
But the tourist, a “True” New Yorker?
Like one unknown comedian I've eavesdropped,
He joked:
“You gotta be in love with some damn body to…
Pay their way at the movies!”
Tell me why all the young Yorkers flock to the free,
Not-so-hot-spots, like the parks, sidewalks, & McDonalds-
On a hot summa day?
Perhaps, we should expand our excursion by window shopping along 5th Ave?
And taking nasal samples of expensive, yet cultural
Morsels of delight,
Stewing in the elite kitchen of Soho?
Hey… it's worth a try, ain't it?
Maybe we can make some progress here…
Aiight yo, I think it's time to take,
A-TOUR-OUT!!
