Golden-July-Seventeen

The greeter at Wal-Mart ...
Forgot to give me a smily-sticker today.
My sunburn hurts like fire.
I miss Adam... and everybody else
who lives a zillion miles away.
Grandpa's goin' in for open-heart surgery -
on my birthday.
I'm getting too big
for the once-monstrous slide down at the park.
I'm one year away from graduation-
I don't want to grow up.

I want grandpa to play hide-the-thimble with me one more time.
