Musings by The Poet Loriet

Honey Bee

Sweetheart,
how do you always know
just what to say and do,
first your words, a quote
from the wizard of Oz
that made me smile
and reflect.

"Pay no attention to
the man behind the curtain."
I listened to the man,
all the voices behind
the curtain today,
as you know.
I ripped the curtain
to shreds and attacked
the voices because
they exploded inside
my head.
And once again,
like always,
you were there,
a guiding presence
by my side.

I just checked my mail
and saw the E-card
that you sent me
and I will hang on,
I will be strong because
you asked me to and
you matter, dammit,
no matter what anyone says,
you matter more to me
than air itself.

Where did you find
that silly card with
a honeybee that was so
ridiculously cute,
delivering a hug that
actually made me feel
warm and gushy inside.
I laughed and cried and
hicupped all at once,
sat here smiling as
the tears flowed.

I didn't think that I
had any tears left today.
The last few you squeezed out
were relieved ones of
knowing someone cares.
I'm not an easy
woman to love.

Thanks for being defiant you
and loving me anyways.
You are my air when
I cannot breathe.
I'm hanging on to your words,
your love for me...
It's all I have left.
Only you understand,
my darling honeybee.
Your flower is trembling,
but I will not wilt.
You are my photosynthesis,
my sunshine despite the rain.
