Musings by The Poet Loriet

Kamikaze Bird

On my way to work,
there was a bird in the road,
one just like me.
She looked up at my big red van,
head cocked to the side,
little birdie brain
incapable of
comprehending danger,
but for a sweet creature
that sings while eating worms
because she doesn't know
any better,
has never had a lobster dinner
dripping in fresh melted butter
followed by decadent creme brulee...
She is happy with her slimy worms.

Anyways, I'm flying along,
late for work and I
don't mean to harm her
but can't stop her from
being in my destructive path.

My van goes right over her,
and she has enough sense
to stay still...and in my rearview
mirror, I see her still walking
along the road with her baby steps,
little ornithological brain
trying to comprehend the
big big noise that just
interrupted her breakfast.

Yes, sweetie, that's me
before coffee too.
McDonald's is just
down the road.

Bless your little birdie heart.
