Musings by The Poet Loriet

Like My Gucci Bag?

My last phone conversation
with Prince Charming was one
in which he completely
disregarded my feelings.
Once again, it was all
about him.

He no longer cares
how I feel or attempts
to connect in any way
with my world, but
I'm still supposed to
care about his.

There are no apologies,
no misconceptions that
he might care about me,
and every time I
try to talk to him,
I end up in tears.

He is so callous
about my hurt, so
"hey, you knew what
you were getting into.
I refuse to apologize.
You hurt...tough luck,
baby. Don't."

After he got done
telling me how he tried
like hell to avoid me,
he asked, realizing that
I had noticed him there,
"So, what did you think
about my new hairdo?
Isn't it cool?"

Not one word about my
hundred dollar salon perm.
Stop the f***ing world.
He shaved his head.

"It looked great,
simply awesome"
I told him stoicly
through gritted teeth.
Yeah, you the man.

"I'm so sorry I bothered you,"
I told him, "It won't happen
again."

He said, "Okay,"
That's what he said.
Simply okay.
I sure am glad
I got to reaffirm
his manlihood by
complimenting him
on his hair.

That phone call
really boosted my spirits.
I ought not to be
such a stranger.

Reach out and
touch someone.
Make their day.
