Musings by The Poet Loriet

I forgot to RSVP.
I meant to.
I really did,
but somehow,
life falling apart
and all that,
it slipped my mind
until it was too late.
My mom asked,
"You did RSVP, didn't you?"
I thought about lying,
but I can't...I have never
been able to lie to anyone.
Besides, she'd probably
go through my mail.
"No, Mom, I forgot."
"You forgot?!
You can't...forget.
You don't treat people
that way, Lori.
What if they don't have
dinner for you? Are you
just going to stand
outside the church?"
This is a formal formal
formal formal formal
wedding we're attending,
and I managed to embarass
my parents before we even
left the driveway to go.
You'd have thought that I
committed a heinous crime.
My mom's eyes were daggers.
"I'm sorry, Mom...just add it
to my very long list of
continual failures,"
I told her.
"What the hell's wrong with you?!
Come on. Let's go!"
She dragged my dad
out the door.
If I die tommorow,
I just wanted it in print.
I did not RSVP.
You knew all along.
Didn't you?
Always wondered what
type of person
could commit such
a travesty.
I AM that hero!
