Ode to a Treasured Friend
Sometimes words are inadequate,
Sometimes racing thoughts misplaced,
For I still cannot comprehend,
That never again shall I see your face,
Perhaps not in this life "Nick",
But this I forever pray,
That wherever you rest your kind heart,
Shall you never know a weary day,
There remains a deep abyss,
In the hole fate left behind,
With her thieving in the night,
Taking all those good and kind,
Not a precious day does pass,
Where I don't wish you were here,
At times the tears are choking,
At the times the pain remains too clear,
I get enraged at the Heavens,
For their blatant trickery,
Often questioning in vain,
Their sole purpose of irony,
For all good men die young,
As has been throughout creation,
But what must Heaven gain,
From our loss? Her own elation?
That yet another angelic soul,
Has arrived to play her songs,
What celestial goals does she seek,
To right perfection? Is she wrong?
Know I not these answers,
But my heart, still heavy, grieves,
As I pray within my very soul,
That we merely rest here on earth.....
but never truly leave.....
Rest in peace, beloved friend
Happy 40th Birthday, Martin, hope there’s a huge banquet table wherever you are
