Musings by The Poet Loriet

Cornfield

You told me that my man
would pop out of a cornfield
here in the ol' Midwest,
that someone was out there
who was meant for me.
"After all, Lori, they make
lots of movies about that stuff,
must be something to it."

Thank you, sweetheart, for
making me smile, but he's not
in the damn cornfields.
Every time I enter a corn maize,
I just end up lost, screaming
with the other "Children of the Corn."

You're a good man for wanting me
to believe, to hope, but love
is just too corny these days.
I'm giving up on farming.
It doesn't produce the
desired yield.

I need a new profession.
