Advice From The Nurse

I am not the chicken soup
you wanted for your soul.
You can't take me in small
doses as a feel-good pill.
I need to be imbibed on
a regular basis, to keep
steady in your bloodstream.
Do not abuse or mis-use me.

I am not a disposable gown
that you can put on when
you feel under the weather
and discard when you want
your play clothes back.

I am not an aphrodisiac,
a miracle drug to feed
your fragile ego PRN.
I am not your Code Blue girl,
ever-ready to resuscitate
your broken heart.

I have needs too.
Who will take care of me
when I need medical attention?
Where's my sweet nightingale?
I think I'm burnt out.
I'm taking off my clogs
and hanging my stethoscope
up on the highest hook.

Paging Dr Love stat!
My heart can't take
any more stress tests.
I've failed.
Can I make an appointment?
I think I need your
medical attention.
