Through The Eyes Of A Poet...

The Child Who Is On My Mind…

Each night as I lay in my bed,
The thoughts always come to me,
Of the child so frail and small,
His little face is all that I see.

Cradled in him mothers arms,
The child so ill and sweet,
I watched him all that time...
As I sat behind him in my seat!

He would often turn to look my way,
His big beautiful eyes smiling at me,
And since that day, that so sad a day,
The child is all that I see.

It was a very special day that day,
We were bound together in faith as one,
For each of us there, we were frail and small,
And we all had a battle that had to be won!

Time went on, the child smiles,
And once more turns his head…
Tears well up in our eyes, so sad,
The fear of the baby being dead!

We were bound up tight in fear and pain,
For fear was all we could see,
We none of us knew the future,
Of if there was a future to be!

To the right of me my precious friend,
Oh how she suffered so much pain,
To see her each day was so hard,
To know she suffered again and again.

But though we were both ill and bald,
So too was the child we could see,
We were all fighting a battle for life,
And that baby's still inside the heart of me.

I don't know whhy it happened to him,
And I will never get to know,
For at the end of that heart-rendering day,
We all parted for we all had to go.

Go home and move on with our lives,
Me, my friend, and that baby so small,
Still in my head, and in my heart,
Still I pray and hope God heard my call?

My friend and I, we had a battle for life,
We were chosen to go where not many went,
That special day will live with me forever,
For it truly was heaven sent!

I lived, she died!  I have cried an ocean!
So full of guilt am I…
That she died and yet I lived,
It's so vivid in my minds eye.

But the child, that baby so sweet,
We were more upset for him…!
To suffer so, not knowing of life,
And knowing this fight he wouldn't win.

So each night all these years later,
In my head and in my heart,
Is the child, so pale and sick…!
From whom we had to depart.

I will never know what happened or how,
To that beautiful baby frail and ill,
All I know for sure is this,
He had to climb the steepest hill.

Why didn't he survive?  I don't know!
All I know that within my heart,
Is the sweetest face that I saw that day!
And that smile as we had to part…

The child who is on my mind...
My prayers will forever wing their way…
For the child that was, the child that is,
The child of yesterday…

For The Child
