I look within the shadows
that dwell within my soul
Sometimes seeing spiteful things
that want to take a hold
I see the red of hatred
from times I'm scared or mad
And sometimes see the blackness
of loneliness and being sad
Sometimes I wander in helplessness
of things I can not do
Like the feeding of the children
or the education they are into
I want to shake the hand of Man
so they will understand
That all of us are one in the same
in a closet with no knob at hand
I sometimes see a glimmer
when someone stops to help
And I warm to life when loves around
for the flowers bloom in wealth
I watch the hope of a Mother
and the strong side of a Man
That helps their children study for life
to be better than I am
So hope is there outside our door
and the shadows may lurk behind
Yet, I love the smiling faces
when people are being kind
So smile at someone
who does not know your name
Give credit where it is due
and others may do the same
For life is a scale of balance
and what you give you'll receive
So all the pressures within life
will leave if you believe.
