Musings by The Poet Loriet
Getting Carded
She looked down her nose
as she held my bottle
of White Zinfandel...
skepticism, actual
amazing skepticism
upon her face,
"Are you twenty-one?
I'm afraid I need to
see your license."
I laughed with glee
as she saw I was
thirteen years over
and her eyes
registered shock,
"I'm so sorry. Please
don't be angry with me.
You just look so
incredibly young!"
"Angry?,"...I giggled.
"You just made my day!
Thank you for asking!"
I flipped my hair as a
twenty-something would do,
tried to hide my
cat-ate-canary grin
and half-walked,
half-danced across
the black asphalt
parking lot which
suddenly looked a
whole lot more like
a field of flowers
in a feminine product
commercial.
