From my mind

FOR ME MAM (IN LAW)

What must you have thought when you first saw me?
With long hair, beard, he looks like a wild man a right hippie
Good god Jim what has she dragged off the street
Leather jacket, flares and silver platform boots he wears upon his feet.

You made me dinner almost everyday
Most nights of the week in your house I would stay
You must have been thinking
When is he going home have I adopted a stray?

For thirty years I'm still here in your life
Because I took your daughter's hand and made her my wife
There's a lot of you in her, I wonder if this you can see
Tender, loving, and caring with pure beauty.

There's always an Irish welcome on your doormat
And even though I don't say it I thank you for that
A piece of your chocolate cake and a nice cup of tea
And to round it all off your good company.

I've never had riches, gold, diamonds rubies or pearls
Between us both we blessed you with two lovely girls
I see in them what I see in my wife
This makes me a millionaire with a very happy life.

I give your daughter what I gave her from the very start
All of my love and all of my heart.
