The Lilac Tree

THE LILAC TREE

The lilac tree is very special to me.
It stands next to my window.
Every morning I sit with my cup of tea.
The first thing I see is the lilac tree.
Alive a thing of great beauty.

The lilac tree is nature's calendar to me,
In springtime the buds will appear.
Your branches and leaves will grow.
Gone the long Winter, gone is the cold and snow.
And I will look to happy tomorrows.

When summertime's here.
Amongst your leaves lush blossom will appear,
Hanging like tears swinging to and fro in the breeze.
Butterflies and bees attracted by the scent.
So sweet a perfume that is heaven sent.
In the branches I see, the birds looking at me,
Looking at them, looking back at me.

Then autumn time's here your leaves turn
Amber, golden and brown.
Falling like parachutes to the ground,
Blowing in circles with the wind.
Swirling and twirling around, making a rustling sound.
Laying your deep leafy carpet to the ground.

Winter winds will blow, covering you in snow.
Your branches all twisted and bare.
What a beautiful sight with branches sparking white.
And icicles hanging from your twigs and your boughs.
In the early morning gloom you are a silhouette to the moon.
Spring and Summer thoughts in my mind.
Wishing away life and time, hoping it will be very soon.

As the sun rises up spreading his rays.
Bringing light to the dark. Turning night into day.
I still sit in wonderment and gaze at nature's pure beauty.
The thing is you see it is all for free.
Costing not one small penny.
So here sits me with the privilege to see
The sky,grass, birds, butterflies and bees.
But most of all the lilac tree.
