Words and Verse

Dawn II

Dawn rose up from her couch of night
Ascending to her throne of gold.
And in her hands she did enfold
And bear for all the land new light.

She gently nudged a fishing boat
Out from the port to spend the day
Upon the ebbtide, fishing by
The light of her permitting ray.

She spread her fingers far and wide
On woods and fields of endless green
And scattered with her open palm
The sprinkling rays of solar sheen.

Her fingers pierced a curtain's fold
And gently she caressed my face
And I woke up, bathed in the gold
That showered in eternal rays.

Jumping up upon the morn
I flung wide the crimson fold
And upon the air was bourne
Dancing light on sea and wold.

The chorus of sweet papagalos
And nightengales rose from each tree,
And so I wrote these little lyrics
To sing upon their melody.
