He was only 5 foot tall…
But his stature was one in awe,
As strong as an ox and twice as tough,
He wasn't afraid to give what-for!
He stood up to anyone who needed it,
And never faltered or stumbled or ran,
He hung on in there, with all his strength,
And gave the fight all that he can!
He never took a beating of words,
And he never would back away,
But more he stood his ground,
To live and war another day!
He would never take any abuse,
And never let anyone talk down…
Wouldn't take any condescending,
And he could wither you with a frown!
He was always fair and strong,
Never offend unless it was deserved,
Nothing fazed or concerned him,
And he was never unnerved!
He had so much respect,
People who knew him had him in awe,
His kindness to people was outstanding,
He was all that he stood for!
He, at Christmas times made parcels,
Full of clothes and food,
And distributed them to the elderly,
To get them in the Christmas mood!
He gave to the poor all the time,
Giving a reason good and true,
Telling them they won the parcel,
For we know their pride is insurmountable too!
He offered a helping hand, but deviously,
Let them think they won a gift,
To make the difference of acceptance,
And in that way not cause a rift.
He knew when the elderly are offered help,
They get all proud and rebel…
So in doing it in his own way,
They didn't give my dad hell!
So the tales of Santa, all this time,
Really have been true,
For in one way or another,
There's been a Santa for me and you!
We may not always have known…
And we may not have realised he's there,
But truly there is a Santa…
In every man, woman or child who care!
My dad had the greatest respect,
And respect in return had he,
Much loved, much admired but so much more…
He was a great dad to me!
