Listening
Are you listening as I steal
into your room to say good night
Are you listening as I pray
for you to be wise and strong and right
Are you listening to me reprimand
be at hand or understand
I'm listening to you now
do you know I'm there
I'm listening to your thoughts
that you don't think I care
Who will listen when you sigh at night
if you are sent away
Who will listen to you pray
that you'll come home to stay
Who will listen to your apology
soliloquy or reverie
I've listened in the past
I will listen evermore
I'm listening to you now
I will not you ignore
In our lives we listen
but do we really hear
until the day that we test fate
and understand too clear
