SOMETIMES WE ALL HAVE TO LOOK A BIT HARDER FOR THAT STAR..AND SEEK TO UNDERSTAND THE GIFT OF LIFE AND DEATH.
feeling the night air swirling around me
damp, almost sticky with humidity, really not a starry evening
we're just too blessed with rain lately to see them.
it was suggested to me (as i chose my corner to smoke in)
to be careful of the bird on the ground whose eyes were becoming dim.
i bent down, to see if in this creature, any life could be found.
i checked her wings and her neck (which did not seem to be broken).
i picked her up, she moved round a bit and her eye's wide did open!
as i held her, she flapped and dug her little claws into my hand some.
i thought maybe she flew into a window and she'd probably fly again when the intial shock was done.
putting her down, back on the ground, i watched to see what would come next. sadly enough she layed down her neck, her head on the cement and took her last breath. reality. death comes to us all, big or small whether she was old or sick i don't know? this just the way death seems to go.
i walked away, empathy for God's creature pulling a little at my heart. walking out of the light, back into the night, this being the time for the dead bird and i to part. i thought then, before i get to the car i'm going to look through the clouds for a star.
