I closed the car door and went
back into the house.
Missy stayed close behind me.
I was starting to wonder
what was going on.
I pick up a complete stranger,
give him a lift and he takes off
without saying thank you or goodbye.
I got the kids up for breakfast.
Missy and I didn't talk
about Tony.
Cynthia: "So, did you have a
good sleep last night you guys?"
Robin: "Yes, mom I did."
Bret: "Me too, mommy."
Stephanie: "I didn't, I was waiting
for you to come home."
Cynthia: "I am so sorry, I wasn't here
to give you kids a
hug and kiss good night."
Bret: "It's okay, mommy, I forgive you."
After the kids finished their breakfast,
I got them dressed and ready to go
with their grandparents for the day.
I was thinking, after they left,
about turning on the tv
and catching up on the
hit and run accident.
Around 10:00, the kids grandparents
showed up to get them.
They didn't stay long,
so it's a good thing I already
had things packed for the kids
before they showed up.
Cynthia: "Bye guys, have a good day
and be good for nanny and grampie!"
All three ran back into the house
to give me a hug and kiss goodbye.
"Bye mom, we love you!"
All three of them said at the same time.
After the car left the driveway,
Missy and I headed for the livingroom
and turned on the television.
We sat down on the couch.
Low and behold, they were talking
about the hit and run accident.
Missy: "Just in time."
Cynthia: "Yes, now we can find
out who the victim was."
Television Announcer: "We have a picture
of the victim."
I dropped my cup on the floor
and it shattered.
It was a picture of Tony,
the hitchhiker.
