Musings by The Poet Loriet
No Fly Zone
I needed today ~ with you,
the open road and just us
as a couple, momentarily
freed from responsibilities
and free to enjoy each other.
When we drove onto the on ramp,
the trees greeted us in all
their glorious Fall splendor,
and a lone fly sat paralyzed
on your dashboard,
afraid I think,
of your acceleration,
my hand on your thigh,
the wind in our hair,
radar detector on,
and Shawn Mullins
blaring from your speakers,
his music sexy and raw...
He knew it was a no fly zone.
But you and I soared
down the interstate lanes,
wheels rolling steadily,
a laugh stuck in the back
of our throats and
the bright sun
making a rainbow
in your rearview mirror.
This day was a day
made for couples,
for cruising and singing,
driving and holding hands,
kisses in red cars...
Me
and
You-
Soaring against the odds
in a no fly zone.
