Words and Verse

Tsar Alexander I (Translation-Russian)

This is one of pushkin's biting epigrams.

Reared well by drum and banner's flashing,
Our Tsar was a commander dashing,
He dashed away at Austerlitz,
In Eighteen-Twelve he lost his wits,
To compensate he turned professor
Up at the front...but lost such cares,
And now he's collegiate assessor
Behind some desk in Foreign Affairs.
