words ever flowing/pieces of me

Painful Understandings

I believe
I've now run past the edges
I was supposed to pass
I fall along the way
finding that falling
is like dying
but
only
a temporary version
of what is our
eventual fate
useless chanting (prayers)
wishful thinking (hoping)
exhausting exercise (hoping to be beautiful)
has no pull on me now
as though I were
already gone
and sitting
watching through these eyes
like windows
until the inevitable comes
wasting away
here being neglected
here
my maturity has granted me
kindness
and others take
advantage of it
as often
as they please
I wonder if any of this
even
amounts
to
anything...
The wearing on my
soul
the pain in my heart
as another man
does twice the harm he set out to do
but believes he is still doing justice
blind, blind poor baby world
you are so unable to see reality
I ache
