 HOME OF THE FLOWING PEN

Ashes

So here you stand before me now
Holding the branches of the broken bough
Is it the salty taste of my tears you seek?
Or is it the predators hunger for the weak?

I sift through the ashes looking for me
Hoping to find who I used to be
Picking these pieces up with trembling hands
A pain I am sure you do not understand

I sift through the ashes looking for hope
I need an answer, a prayer, to help me cope
A sun to dry all these tears away
A wind to erase thoughts of yesterday

I know at last I may bend but won't break
These painful ashes wont cause heartache
For as I sift through them I see the truth
That the homefire was set by a match held by you
