Rise Above

~~designed by Aina~~

I did not see the cardinal
but her eyes peered right thru me.
She hopped across my yard
with a silly tweetle tweet.

Her head cocked right, then left
studying me with beady eyes.
I asked the sweet little birdie
why she wasn't soaring the skies.

I found it quite peculiar
as she hopped closer for me to see
each ruby and garnet feather
and the red rose in her beak.

She tried to be coy
but I saw thru her disguise.
She said, "Love my baby boy.
Listen for I am wise."

I scattered some birdseed
into the fickle-feathered wind,
promised her I would try
if she'd show me how to begin.

She tenderly brushed my cheek
as she stole one of my fries,
told me~Just walk beside him
and above all this, you'll rise.
