Coloring The Turtle

(Written for my angelic daughter Amber)

I see my sweet daughter
With crayons in her hand
She said to me with a smile
"Mommy you just don't understand"

"You know this turtle I see...
Well he's black and he's white.
I've seen plenty of turtles...
And something's not right"

"So I'll color his body green...
YES that's what I'll do.
Black for his claws...
And his eyes this shade of blue"

"Now maybe his shell....
Needs a few specks of brown.
I guess it depends really...
On the kind of turtle I've found"

So she sits coloring the turtle
And I can't help but sigh
Is there anything more beautiful...
Than the colors in a child's eyes?
