Kansas

The Day i came to Kansas
The Sky was coloured like an artists canvas
And as the sun disappeared behind the trees
The night came with its darkened clouds and chilling breeze
The smell of the storm, filled the air
I felt scrutinized under an enemies stare
I was an Englishman in a strange land
With only her name written on my hand.

My purpose of travelling here was to search for a girl
I had named my ship after her, before i set sail
Searching the four corners of Earth, and heaven and hell
My quest was for a name know only as Mel
My thoughts of her, and my endless quest for her name
Were interrupted by the lighting, thunder and rain.

I needed shelter from the storm, a place to rest
I saw a tree, and as shelter goes, it was the best
Surrounded by Grasslands, and the pitter patter of rain
I collapsed to the ground, in tiredness and pain
Within my dreams, she came to me
And tended my needs by the sheltering tree.

I was still conscious as i could here the storm.
But her touch, and her love made me feel safe and warm
She held me so close, that we became one
Her aura and beauty were so bright it outshone the sun
She kissed me and breathed into my soul
And as we became closer, i felt I'd become whole
I awoke with her name engraved in my heart, but alone
Yet my castle was now an Englishman's home

The storm had passed, and the grasslands where greener
Her name was no longer on my hand; i was no longer a dreamer
The wind called her name, and the bright blue sky gave way to the sun
And as i walked the path that the leaves had shown me, i knew i was done
Over the hills, and through the grasslands, and beyond the sheltering tree
I would spend my last days with a girl, who really loved me.
