Sweet melodies floating above,
Deep voices joined in one song.
Suddenly, a look amongst them shared,
City workers, an audience totally unprepared.
Gone are the jackets in one fluid move,
Knees bent, hands slapping thighs,
Passionate fire, sparks in dark eyes.
A proud race united in ancient chant here today.
I'm riveted, skin prickling, I can't look away.
An awesome rush of power, now holds sway.
Witnessing an act kept alive,
Bonding a race, a whole nation,
Pride swells inside.
