Words and Verse
A Picture
[Written while looking at a picture in the NY Art gallery-- "Mary Magdlne in Penetence" by El Greco]
A blond middle-eastern by the pitiless grot
You sat there,
in the stony sheen
Your pallid face a
Portrait of begging
By the twining ivy
Of solitary green.
Your clothes of delight
Still wrapped about you
Yet hiding your experienced limbs
As sure as the skull sits
At you side
With the perfume bottle of empty love
You knew you were with god above.
Tu frente es pálida y freia
Y triste to corazón
Sobre la roca sombría
Llevas tu alma a Dios.
(Your brow is pallid and cold. and sad your heart. Upon the shadowy rock you lift your sould unto God)
A blond middle-eastern by the pitiless grot
You sat there,
in the stony sheen
Your pallid face a
Portrait of begging
By the twining ivy
Of solitary green.
Your clothes of delight
Still wrapped about you
Yet hiding your experienced limbs
As sure as the skull sits
At you side
With the perfume bottle of empty love
You knew you were with god above.
Tu frente es pálida y freia
Y triste to corazón
Sobre la roca sombría
Llevas tu alma a Dios.
(Your brow is pallid and cold. and sad your heart. Upon the shadowy rock you lift your sould unto God)
