Your Eyes

No, they're not brown.
More of a caramello
like the inside of
a Cadbury Easter egg
~only darker~.

Like the Mississippi
only much much brighter
much more beautiful...
like bronze or copper
only with an infinite
ability to catch light,
the stars in the sky
like no precious metal
could ever do.
Almost gold but--
no, not quite that
surreal.

A favorite pair of suede boots,
coolest bomber jacket
at The Gap--
Summer's sun seen through
rose-colored glasses.
Full moon viewed through visors
of tinted motorcycle helmets.

Polished wooden cross I pray to
as I kneel beside our bed
every night you're not there.
The color of faded red roses
pressed between the pages
of a high school yearbook.

Your eyes are indescribable.
They see right through me,
hypnotize me, haunt me.
Always and Forever.

Your eyes.
