The Stranger

The Stranger
Foghorns sounded across the sea,
Warning ships how dangerous it could be.
Waves were lapping against the shore,
Search lights were blinking across the moor.
Fog had enveloped the sleepy little town,
People waited at the dock...fearful their loved
ones would drown.
The fishing boats were all still out,
Every now and then you'd hear someone shout.
A woman stood apart from the rest of the crowd,
Oh please God...let them be safe ,she prayed out loud.
She looked toward heaven ,and said with a smile;
It's okay everyone...they'll be home in a while.
Like magic the fog lifted and everyone could see,
All the fishing boats in a circle as near as could be.
The people all looked at each other...you could see the relief,
The strange woman smiled...all you needed was a little belief.
They ran to greet their loved ones and as they returned;
They realized the woman was gone...but what a lesson they had
learned.
