Never Shared

she sits nightly asking about her sons
they are always young boys never grownup
she hates silence so she talks non stop
never makes any sense just talks to talk
how can i know what was never shared with me

adjusting to her world is hard i dont know it
she thinks if i know her i know it all not true
when i say i dont know she becomes agitated
she is then ready to leave because i dont know
how can i know what was never shared with me

i was the eldest left home first i lived elsewhere
she was so wrapped up with her boys she forgot me
she forgot she had a daughter i have never understood
till she could no longer care for herself there i was
how can i know what was never shared with me

two sons are gone except in her head the other lives away
he lives a busy life on the east coast little time for her
she doesnt remember that anymore i cant compete with them
so where do i fit in i care for her after all she is my mother
how can i know what was never shared with me
