Poems of Soldiers
A soldier's lament
A yell and cursing were all that were heard
And one less soldier roamed the field
But this was soldier was my friend
As I pick up his devastated body
A lone tear streaks my face
And the light inside me dims
As I carry him I begin to envy him
He is free from this conflict
He has entered Elysium
How will I tell his love
What will I tell his parents
And what lie will I tell myself
To his Love I will say
"This man loved you
more than any could"
To his parents I tell them
"He was the best kind of man
he did everything for everyone else"
And to myself.....a lie
"I did what I could
to save him from this"
Carrying him to his grave
I cannot help but cry
I had to watch
my best friend die
