Lady Jane

Surrounded by arches and pillars of the finest marble
I listen to music so elegant and telling
I see her fingers make love to the harp
As I sit upon my thrown, and look into the great empty hall
I see the shadows dance to her songs of the great knight
A smile crosses my face, wrinkles turn upwards,
I am old now, weary of battles and of slaying monsters
But I see my lady, still as beautiful as the day I first found her
Her black hair long and as spellbinding like the night sky
Her piercing eyes are like the stars that shine from heaven that very night
Her face as pale as the moon, and her voice is like that of the sea breeze
I remember the day as if it was yesterday
I had come from a place called, Gwynedd, a town many leagues from here
My services were needed a knight called into battle for another mans law
But I did not complain, I knew what my services to the king meant
The battle was bloody and quick, and I returned home, saddened by my deeds
My sadness turned to anger, when through the forests I saw smoke
A convent on fire, charred bodies littered the floor
Which evil breathes here I thought
Yet from evil came a goodness I could never forget
A song, a Childs voice, of sorrow and pain
And there, hiding behind the great oak, she huddled and hid
Singing softly to herself, her hair as black as the ashen convent
My black armour, and crimson blood, must have reminded her of men
“Sweet child, not all men are monsters, come with me I shall protect you”
On the journey south she sang her sadness of men's hearts and deeds
She whispered her name, and I thought she said, “Jane”
Till this day I never really know, only that she is Lady Jane of my court
She had talents, in singing and music, and her voice was like dawn
With my wealth I had her made the finest instruments in all the land
She grew within my court, and she grew within my soul and heart
Never had I loved like this, she was my lady, and I was her brave knight
Yet bound by chivalry and honour I could only pledge my life to her
But that was not even enough; I wanted to offer her the universe in my palm
Memories? They are feathers that float from the sky, twirling like silent whispers
And still now as time has drifted by, still she sits with me and sings
Her love has kept me alive, immortal throughout this land
A love with every season, with every snow flake and leafs that turn and blazing sun
My Lady Jane, my muse, my inspiration, my faith in mortal hearts
For eternity within these great halls of kings, I will listen to yours.
