Jesus Saves Today (Villanelle) #97

Beyond the catacombs where bodies lay
With broken bones of rotting pearly white,
She'll rise from death and Jesus saves today.

While in the sepulcher in lost dismay,
Her candle's flame had flickered into night
Beyond the catacombs where bodies lay.

Dismissing pungency of flesh decay,
The angels were anouncing with delight,
“She'll rise from death and Jesus saves today.”

Pulled from the synergy of evil sway,
His soothing voice had come to give her sight
Beyond the catacombs where bodies lay.

“Mary,” the only word He had to say
As in her soul a truth was beaming bright,
“She'll rise from death and Jesus saves today.”

No longer will her sadness she convey,
Her spirit from this world will leave in flight.
Beyond the catacombs where bodies lay,
She'll rise from death and Jesus saves today.
