She was wearing a red sari
A small handbag,
A cloth bag hung from her shoulder
Where she would go?
Everything was blurred.
Red brick building with long corridor.
She went down badly lit stairs
Emerged into a bright compound
The light and shadow of the night
Scattered on the large window
A sense of boredom
A hint of life’s emptiness
A memory of wasted life
A familiar damp silence
No one felt her presence.
She had a rapid impulse
Ready to listen to no one else
In acute spell of depression
The words did spread their wings
She lifted her large black long-lashed eyes.
The stars burned in flames
The pale moon smiled back
The light overflowed
Emitting urgent cries
In the cloudless night sky.
Crinkling and cackle of the crowd
Old bicycle across the narrow road
Small lights glowing in windows
Small stone structure with asbestos roof
A smell of sulphur sprayed into the air
She had no destination
She wondered in the street
She would fall asleep as a child
And woken up find that
Her life passed away
A decision had to be made
The noise of speeding trains
Darkness condensed under the railway bridge
And the blinding amber light
Clattering high pitched sound
She jumped on the railway track
The train rolled past her
A wild scream followed by silence
A pool of blood -scattered limbs
She went into oblivion-in her own way.
