Do you ever think of me
when you go by the roses,
lace doilies, little cupids?
When you see pictures of couples
walking along a moonlit beach,
do your thoughts turn to me?
Do you ever drive by my house
late at night to see MY lights on
and wonder if I have bad dreams,
if I cry myself to sleep?
When you hear a love song
on the radio, watch a love scene
in a romantic movie...does it ever
remind you of me?
Do you ever read greeting cards
searching for words to express
how you feel about me?
Do your friends know any
of our stories, yours and mine?
Do certain colors, smells, sights
bring memories of me to you in
the middle of the day, make you stop
and feel a little tug at your heart?
Do I matter to you?
Do you think about me?
Are you ever going to say
"I love you" again?
Or will I always be
chasing a dream?
I need to know...

Or will I always be
the flower blooming
in the shadow of a tree?
The star to the right
of your true North?
The ugly duckling
who wanted to be
your swan?
The act following
the star of the show?
I want the sunlight,
the spotlight,
the roses at my feet.
