The Journey Of My Life (Translation-German)
From the German of Wilhelm Busch
My life? There's not that much to tell,
In lulled eternity forlorn,
I slumbered, peacefully and well,
Till rendered visible and born.
What then? Along a knobby track,
A flimsy bundle on my back,
      I went and confidently bumbled,
On crooked and straight paths I stumbled
Then sat to catch my breath at last
And gave the place a look about.
I'd come full circle! Yes, Alas!
Back where I first had started out
And far and wide in front of me
There stretched, as then, eternity.
My life? There's not that much to tell,
In lulled eternity forlorn,
I slumbered, peacefully and well,
Till rendered visible and born.
What then? Along a knobby track,
A flimsy bundle on my back,
      I went and confidently bumbled,
On crooked and straight paths I stumbled
Then sat to catch my breath at last
And gave the place a look about.
I'd come full circle! Yes, Alas!
Back where I first had started out
And far and wide in front of me
There stretched, as then, eternity.
