Letters From A Poet

~I'm so sorry~ was all she could write
With tears falling down this long cold night
Her path in life was not one she could choose
Her tender heart was left battered and bruised

And now you're reaching out to her
With your love and soft spoken word
Can you see she's still running away from the pain?
How can you expect her to come out of the rain

Just a letter from a poet she holds to her chest
Written with tears and never in jest
How she wants to show you how much she cares
But right now her life has her stumbling scared

A few little words put down in the right place
She's writing a letter with tears on her face
Telling you she loves nobody but you
And how she can't help the foolish things she can do

She might not see everything quite like you
But never doubt her intentions are true
To wrap you in cotton and put you somewhere safe....
Is all she can do til she takes leave of this place

I know things she says can catch you unaware
And you look with disbelief and a sorrow-filled stare
Sometimes she wonders should she just fade away...
As she writes a letter with I'm sorry on the page
