Call Me Old-Fashioned..

sitting here to write, i search to find a word
bursting with colorful sentiment
instead of a word, little and trite.
i check over what i've written and wonder
if this word (poignant) or that word (acrimony)
is spelled right or if it even fills what i'm writing
with the right kind of meaning.
it would be so easy to push that little button called "spell check" or "dictionary", "thesaurus" or even more odd still, "find a rhyme". first of all, not all poetry rhymes..
second, creativity comes from deep inside and when we sit in silence working to expand our minds.
i tried about 10 years ago to use the word processor's
thesaurus to clean up a poem
make it more snazzy, a little more jazzy.
what a joke, i keep the poem around just for a good laugh
i call it "the thesaurus horror".
looking back i'm not even sure what it completely means.
now, don't get me wrong.. it's good to learn new words
and it's nice to spell things right.
but, it's like i tell my children when they ask
"what does that word mean?"
or "how do you spell a word such as that?"
i don't tell them "get on the computer and push spell check.."
we find our dictionary and look it up.
it's amazing the new words we'll find
while we're looking up a word, such as (sublime).
so, call me old-fashioned
but i'd rather take the effort and time
to pick up my tattered old dictionary
(with the cover falling off)
to find a words true spelling
or a word that in my poem will rhyme... (It`s worth the time). Call me old fasioned...
