This simple rede shall always stand
When I take my pen in hand.
I shall write of what I see;
Always truthful shall I be.
The words I write shall be my own,
Their consequences mine alone.
I will not steal another's prose.
Shame on those who falsely pose.
Record the histories of this time.
Lest memory fails, set them to rhyme,
So future kin can quick recite
The lessons learned from Mankind's plight.
I shall mind the law of three,
Lest hateful words return to me.
Know thy words another heeds;
Keep balance in thy written deeds.
A pen of mercy should ye use;
Be mindful of the words ye choose.
Rash words raising false alarm
May bring about another's harm.
Ye must observe with heart and soul
If ye seek to reach the goal
Of perfect love and perfect trust,
For thy prose to remain just.
Thank the Spirit for thy gift;
Stay humble or be set adrift.
The sea of knowledge is great and deep;
Be mindful of the course ye keep.
This be the rede I shall abide,
Lest inspiration from me hide.
This bardic oath I share with thee.
Merry part and blessed be.
