The Sands of Time

The Sands of time keep sifting
through my mind.
Yesterday was so long ago,
yet I remember it as a gentle
and kinder time.
People were thoughtful,
truthful and sublime.

The doors were never locked,
no one watched the clock.

People walked the streets after dark.
Grown-ups and kids alike played in the park.

Drugs were a medicine for a headache.
If someone took your coat, it was by mistake.

Baseball was a game
not a millionaire's sport.
If you broke your neighbor’s gate,
you didn’t end up in court.

Schools were for learning, the pledge
of allegiance and "In God we trust,"
were not a subject of  mistrust.

Yesterday… honesty was in.
Today you must ask is it
politically correct?

Who said…
Change is good?
