My true friend to last life long,
I found only in rhyme and song,
My soul is saddened by that simple truth.
Friend after friend as far back as youth
There's been no faith or trust.
Remember this always, I must.
I read more in the last chance---
Kinda hoped it was no dance.
It began as a lovely song.
Time was short. It didn't last long.
Canopied under the northern lights
Our friendship soared to reach new heights.
Suspended in time, a moment of gold,
We were warm although it was cold.
This time alone, our feelings shared
It seemed a dream ‘cause someone cared.
The lights danced in awesome splendor.
My faith rekindled by this friend so tender.
This sparkling moment forever is pressed.
A friend have I. I've been blessed!
I drove that night in the cool of the rain
Hoping to wash away some of the pain,
My spirit bleeding as though it were slain.
So cold and very old, but quite mundane.
Just an old fool to open the door,
I knew better, I knew the score.
Never again, no friends for me.
The door is shut, abandon the key.
Now it's been done right.
My song's over. It's twilight.
