Words and Verse
Parting at a wine-shop in NanJing (Translation-Chinese)
By Li Bai
Parting at a wine-shop in NanJing
Wind bears wifts of willow-cotton
Sweetening the liquor store,
And a girl from Wu, as wine-drops
From her pitcher roll and pour,
Bids me share it with my comrades
Here to see me off today
And as each one drains his drink, then
As I part with him, I say:
“Seek the river whose swift waters,
Greet eastern sun above,
Ask it if it travels farther,
Farther than a true friend's love.”
Original
金陵酒肆留別
風吹柳花滿店香,
吳姬壓酒喚客嘗;
金陵子弟來相送,
欲行不行各盡觴。
請君試問東流水,
別意與之誰短長?
