Down in Alabama at the "Tip and Down"
on the southern edge of "Whiskey Town",
a city boy was bragging, telling jokes,
and looking down his nose at country folks.
Mainly he was boasting his shiny new pickup
painted candy apple red, with a big V-8,
and dashboard dancer with hips that shake
Well about that time Bubba's pulled up outside,
in this dirty, dusty, rusty old pickup ride,
and when that city boy seen it he started to laugh,
saying "What junkyard you buy that heap at?
Well Bubba's truck may of smoked like a mosquito fogger,
but it was all he had, that pulpwood logger.
Bubba's eyes flared, and his face turned red,
If looks could kill, that city boy, he was dead
Then the city boy, added insult to injury,
by saying, "Listen Boy, I'll tell you what,
To make this bet is but a crime,
but if you make it over I'll give you mine,
Reznic Road that is"
Yep, it's mighty steep, Reznic's Road,
bad when empty, worse with a load,
winding, rutted, potted, gravel as well,
rough as a washboard, and dusty as hell.
Well, Bubba had never had a new truck in his life,
having to clothe feed five kids and a wife,
Mama will kill me for making this bet",
rapping his knuckles on the truck's wood bed,
"But with help of God and little bit of luck,
I can kiss goodbye this rusty old truck."
So with a toothpick grin they both shook hands,
and we all went on down to Reznic Road
Yep, it's mighty steep, that Reznic Road,
bad when empty, worse with a load,
winding, rutted, potted, gravel as well,
rough as a washboard, and dusty as hell.
Well when Bubba hit that hill it was at sixty five,
and heard someone say, "The Lord helps those who try".
And about then out of his hood came this ball of smoke,
and I yelled, "Bail out Bubba or you'll choke!"
But through the dust, steam, dirt and smoke I seen a hat,
as Bubba leaned out the window to see where he was at.
At half way up there was a great big thump,
when a worn out recap blew on a bump.
But Bubba kept on rolling up that road.
and another went flat to level the load.
Then I heard something that cut like a knife,
It was Bubba's kids and fat old wife,
and they rooting him on with all they had
saying "Come on Bubba and come on dad!"
Well I don't know what it was,
Plain dumb luck or God's good will,
but as Bubba rounded the top of the hill
through the heat, steam, and bellowing smoke,
I heard Old Bubba, and this ain't no joke,
he was singing,
"Oh, a pulpwood truck is one rough ride,
making this bet's the devils pride,
and Reznic Road is one rough buck,
But I don't care cuz,
I'll be driving a brand new Truck!
YEEEEEEEEEE HAWWWWWWWWW!!
