Golden Bond of LoveMy Sister, Marlene, died April 16, 1989--------And a part of my heart and soul died with her. She was seven years older, had chosen the name given to me---(Thank God---My Dad wanted to name me Pearl Harbor--since I was born just two months after that infamous attack !!!)and had been my nemesis, and my mentor through my growing up years !!!! Oh, the stories I could tell, and probably will as this site goes on ! In early 1985, Marlene had heart trouble, stemming from polio when she was a teenager, and Rheumatoid Arthritis, and had to have surgery to remove the sac from around her heart, which had filled with blood. She also had a pace-maker installed. Her struggle back to a state of "altered-health" was a difficult and tedious one for her, and we spoke often on the phone, and she was always on my "Continuous Prayer List"---that list where every thing I do, every thing I try, every word I utter are prayers for the persons on that list. During this time, I sent Marlene a poem entitled "I Said A Prayer For You Today, and she thought I wrote it !!!!! I called her, and quickly explained that I had that poem on a card I'd been sent, and that I didn't write it at all!!! She was indignant, she said she wanted a poem written by me----for her !!!!!!!! So, Here it is----I thought I had lost it for quite a while, because I sent her the original----and I found it long after she had died, in a Bible Marlene had given to my Mother......... Golden Bond of Love Spend so much time thinking of you. Praying God will let you know. Just how much I really Love you, And how much I miss you so. Even though I can't be with you, We have a Golden Bond of Love Tying all our hearts together, Our Lord and Savior up above. For I know He dwells within you, His Love shines in all you do, And He is our Strength and Comfort, Always there to see us through. So, in moments when I miss you, And want to see you most of all, I just lift my eyes toward heaven And on Jesus Christ I call. Lord, send warm and tender feelings, In the dawning of the day, In the beauty of a flower, In the kind words Loved ones say. In that quiet, lonely moment When strength would begin to fail, Look toward a star in Heaven, And upon my strength prevail !! For, you see, we are together, Every moment, every day, And we can draw closer, ever, When we bow our heads and Pray And our Lord, Who Loves us dearly, And is our Golden Bond of Love, Will deliver each sweet message That we pass through Him above. So, Each time you see a sunrise, Or Creation's beauty fair, Listen for my Loving Message, And whisper back a Little Prayer. written by karen, 1985 Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
