Addiction! An Illness Or A Fallacy? Derogatory as it is, It's an illness that's hard to control, Makes one's life a nightmare, And has the feeling of not being whole! Depravity as it seems to be, Addiction is all that and more, Not knowing what's ahead, Not knowing the outcome, the score. A roller-coaster of highs and lows, Confusion inside the head, Not thinking straight no comprehension, Of the thought of being dead! Living life in a haze of fog, Can't see the end, the light, Living in a fantasy world, And with nightmares of the night! Alcoholism, an illness or a fallacy! People see and judge…and walk away, Not understanding the illness, No compassion, not wanting to stay! But there but for the grace of God go we! For depending the path we take in life, It will deem the circumstances we live, In peace and harmony, or struggle and strife! So before you judge another, Please see the person who has no control! Of the illness that binds them tight, The tormented, torturous soul! Alcoholism is an illness! It's not a fickle silly excuse, For living in a drunken stupor, It's an addiction illness, not a ruse! So before you judge another, Please take a step back and see… The illness for what it is, And not what it seems to be! They walk the walk, But do we understand? If not, we should try to!
