I want my readers to be able
to bathe in my poetry,
efferevescent thoughts bubbling
in their minds,
massaging their temples.

I want them to immerse themselves
in stanza after stanza,
a glass of wine in hand,
the day's stressors far away.

I want them to dangle
bare feet in my metaphors,
my words softened by
the glow of candlelight.

My poetry is not meant
to be read amongst crying babies,
barking dogs, a pile of dishes
stacked in the sink.

It is my hopes and dreams,
my innermost thoughts
steaming in a claw-foot tub
inviting you to meld
your mind with mine
if only for a brief interlude.
