A Powerful Gift

Sometimes I take for granted
And I fail to understand
The power of a poet
Holding a pen in their hand

Words that flow so easy
Can bring some to their knees
As we paint for them a picture
Through the tears we see

Words that dance and flutter
A true poetic bliss
Loving sounds of laughter
And relishing in their kiss

Words that crash like thunder
As it shakes once solid ground
Pounding fists of prose and rhyme
When our anger rains on down

Words that help us hide away
As the world still turns outside
Safe in a scribed sanctuary
Letting no one else inside

Words that now are written
Stronger than speeches from our lips
Bestowed unto a poet and pen
This ever so powerful gift
