Remember How To Smile
I see a sad~eyed little girl
Clutching a photograph to her chest
Lying on a bed of soft grass
Just to give her weary head a rest
I watch her chest rise and fall
With a soft and tender sigh
My trembling hand reaches to her
As a tear falls from her eye
The sun shines all around her
The wind ruffles her curling hair
Yet her heart is lost in a memory
She doesn't notice they are there
The flowers bloom beside her
A butterfly stops on her hand to rest
Yet they too seem to fade away
To the photograph against her chest
How I wish to reach out to her
But she lives inside of me
I beg her to remember how to smile
Before that too becomes a memory
